Tennis great Martina Navratilova had a bit of trouble with the jive on the second week of Dancing with the Stars and consequently became the first contestant booted from season 14.
Navratilova struggled with some of the footwork for her routine to “Tell Her About It,” earning her and partner Tony Dovolani only 17 points from the judges – the lowest score of the night.
In the end, Navratilova was the first to go home, but she told the LA Times Wednesday that it was an experience she’ll never forget for many reasons.
This show is really such a different competition than anything I've ever faced in my entire career and challenging in a completely new way,” Navratilova told the LA Times. “You really can't compare it to anything and it's a one-of-a-kind experience I'll remember for the rest of my life. It allowed me to face down one of my biggest fears, and even though I didn't get the votes this week, I still feel like I really accomplished something.”
A constant refrain throughout the Twittersphere has been that the show’s producers doubly handicapped Navratilova with the hideous costumes they put on her, but she looked past the heels and outfits and said, “I really felt like I learned to dance and I can walk away with my head held high knowing that I worked my tail off. I gave it my all and if I've inspired even one person, then it was all worth it.”
