WATCH: Sara Gilbert Chokes Up Over Support for Marriage Equlity, Lily Tomlin Guests on 'The Talk'

On the heels of the Supreme Court hearings on Prop 8 and DOMA comedy legend Lily Tomlin stopped by CBS’s The Talk to guest host. While Tomlin spoke of a friend of hers who’d clerked for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg decades ago during the fight for women’s rights, who was front and center for the hearings this week, The Talk’s out cohost Sara Gilbert got choked up recalling the outpouring of support, especially from straight allies. 

Gilbert thanked so many allies who changed their profile photos on Twitter and Facebook red this week in support of marriage equality.

“I really feel moved and proud to be part of a country that will embrace change,” Gilbert said. “This is an emotional topic for me. It’s very painful to feel like people think that your love isn’t equal in some way. I love my family the same as anyone else loves their family and I’m really grateful for all the support.”

While Tomlin wouldn’t spill as to just what her friend on hand for the hearings said, she did flash one of her trademark smiles and say, “I think it’s going to go well.”
