Everyone knows that short hair on women is a surefire sign of lesbianism. Right? Isn't it? Anyway, a recent spate of female celebrities with shorn locks might prove otherwise – as evidenced by Carey Mulligan, Anne Hathaway, Emma Watson, P!nk and Miley Cyrus. Despite the trend toward shorter coifs, many tunnel-visioned folks are still confused by women with short hair. Well, Cyrus, 20, recently told the Toronto Sun that she never thought a hair cut would change her life, and that she doesn’t basically give a hoot if someone thinks she’s a lesbian because of her buzzed hair.
“I didn’t plan a haircut to change my life. I just cut my hair and then it really changed my life. There’s something about having no hair that it screams being confident,” Cyrus told the Toronto Sun. “And I think especially because people like to put people in a box, I mean the names I’ve been called since I cut my hair.”
The former Disney star chopped off her locks last summer, a move that immediately prompted people to wonder if she’s a lesbian. But Cyrus doesn’t care if people think she’s a lesbian, she told the Sun.
“Everyone said I was a lesbian but I’m like, ‘Being a lesbian isn’t a bad thing. So if you think I look like I’m a lesbian, I’m not offended,” Cyrus said. “You can call me much worse.’ I’ve been called much worse. Being a lesbian is a compliment more than what else they call me.”
