The best performances of the year inspired these gorgeous, vivacious photographs in a W magazine spread.

Shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the striking photos capture the power of truly top tier performers, including SheWired faves Natalie Portman (Black Swan), Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right), Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech), Dakota Fanning (The Runaways), Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole), Mila Kunis (Black Swan), Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right), and Melissa Leo (The Fighter).

The mom-to-be Portman admits: “The movie that I watched the most when I was growing up was Dirty Dancing. I always loved Penny, probably because I was really like Baby. I was a Jewish girl from a Jewish family, so of course I liked the tall, skinny blond girl.” We love you just the way you are, Natalie.

Helena is still every bit as sexy as she was in any previous period pieces and Fight Club.

Dakota channels Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver.

A ravishing Nic Kidman considers more nude scenes for the future: “I don’t mind being naked. After having a baby, I’m not so sure now, but I enjoy not letting my issues get in the way of nudity.”

Kunis recounts her intense preparation to play a dark ballerina, “Before Black Swan, I had never danced in my life, and I will never dance again. I lost 20 pounds in three months, danced five hours a day, for seven days a week. I tore a ligament. I dislocated my shoulder. I have two scars on my back. It was worth every minute, but I will never put on toe shoes again.”
