NikkieTutorials Has PTSD After Being Blackmailed to Come Out
"It is still difficult at times," the beauty guru said, opening up about her struggles.
Makeup artist and YouTube beauty vlogger NikkieTutorials is opening up about her post-traumatic stress disorder following her traumatic coming out experience from earlier this year.
Back in January, Nikkie uploaded a video titled "I'm Coming Out" to her 13 million subscribers where she revealed that she was a proud transgender woman and that she was being blackmailed "by people who wanted to leak my story to the press."
"I am me. I am still Nikkie. Nothing changes about that," she said, sharing details of her transition to get ahead of the manipulation before sticking up the middle finger. "So to the people who tried to blackmail me...this one’s for you."
A few months later, the content creator says that the event still has some lasting effects on her day-to-day life. On top of being worried about "everything I said in my videos suddenly [beccoming] a news item," Nikkie revealed in a new interview that she's been diagnosed with PTSD over the incident.
"I went to the doctor because I have trouble sleeping," she told them. "'Well, we shouldn't make it bigger than it is,' I said. But still: all my symptoms indicate towards PTSD. 'All I can do is give myself time to give it a place,' he said. So I try that, although it is still difficult at times."
