Ellen Is Inspired by This 12-Year-Old Who Got Bullied for Wearing Makeup
"Good for you for not stopping being who you are."
Ellen DeGeneres sat down with Reuben de Maid, a 12-year-old from Llandaff, Wales who loves to sing and do makeup.
Reuben performed the classic "And I Am Telling You" on the daytime talk show, then chatted with Ellen about his affinity for cosmetics.
"I used to watch my phone for hours on end learning from tutorials and blogs."
"That's amazing," exclaimed Ellen. "Those are really good lips!"
But Reuben's exceptional talents weren't praised by everyone. He shared with Ellen some of the bullying he experienced in primary school.
"In my drama group, I used to get hit, punched and kicked," Reuben explained. "After two months, I tried to brush it off but brushing it off doesn't work, so I stood up to them and told my mum."
"Good for you for not stopping being who you are," exclaimed Ellen. And being the kind-hearted person that she is, she decided to help Reuben set up his own YouTube channel, giving him a laptop and lighting kit so he could create his own makeup tutorials.
"Thank you thank you thank you!" Reuben yelped with glee after getting his surprise gifts.
