Lesbian speed skater Ireen Wüst will bring the gold home to the Netherlands after winning the gold medal in the women's 1,500-meter race on Sunday. Wüst posted a time of 1 minute, 56.89 seconds to beat Canadian Kristina Groves by .25 seconds to capture her country's fifth speedskating medal of the Vancouver Olympics. Czech Martina Sablikova won the bronze with a time of 1:57.96.

At the podium, Wüst broke down in an emotional moment as the Dutch national anthem surrounded the crowd.
"Pulling all the pieces together, I'm so proud and happy," Wüst said, according to The Washington Post. "I can't describe how happy I am. I don't have the words for it. I think I'm the happiest person on Earth right now."
"This was my last chance," said Wüst. "I thought I had to open well and skate relaxed. Everything went right."
It was Wüst's second career Olympic gold medal. The 23-year-old won the 3,000 meters at the 2006 Turin Games, where she also captured bronze in the 1,500. She was only 19.
