Italian Mafia Reportedly Cool With Gay Mobsters, Parties at Drag Bars

Literally everything is gayer now.

Always wanted to join the Italian mob but felt left out because they didn’t accept gays? It may be your time to shine!

An anti-mafia investigator in Italy is dishing on how the mob is reportedly finally allowing gay men to hang out and do crime with them.

“The mafia have evolved along with society,” the investigator, Nicola Gratteri, told The Times of London. He even says the son of one prominent family is living life as a drag queen named Lady Godiva.

This is a far cry from when the mob used to kill any members they believed to be gay.

But not everyone is on board with this progressive vision for the mob. The older bosses, Gratteri said, still feel that having gay dudes around “undermines their image of themselves as tough, virile guys.”

Still, he says he’s intercepted secret love letters between a crime boss and a younger lieutenant in the mafia, and claims to have overheard phone calls where these tough guys are chatting each other up about going out to “transvestite bars,” an apparent favorite pastime.

But discretion is the name of the game. Gratteri says “gays can be accepted now, even as foot soldiers, so long as they don’t parade it in public.”

So we’re not exactly going to be seeing the mafia setting up a float at Pride next year, but hey, progress is progress! And if someone wants to redo The Godfather and make it gay, now seems like the perfect time to strike.
