'I'm Gay' License Plate Advocate Found Dead in Oklahoma

Oklahoma police are investigating the death of Keith Kimmel, who made headlines earlier this year when he sued the Oklahoma Tax Commission in an attempt to have "I'M GAY" printed on his license plate. According to reports, his request for the specialized plate was turned down because the agency felt it could be considered offensive to the general public.

Oklahoma police are investigating the death of Keith Kimmel, 28, who made headlines earlier this year when he sued the Oklahoma Tax Commission in an attempt to have “I’M GAY” printed on his license plate.

Kimmel's requst for the plate was nixed because the agency felt it could be considered offensive to the general public, according to Tulsa World.

The discovery of the body on Wednesday came just two days after he filed a police brutality complaint against Tulsa Police for improper treatment during an arrest at a club over the weekend.

According to Kimmel’s report, officers beat him while trying to make an arrest on Friday.  Police said they responded to a call from a bartender at the club who wanted them to remove an intoxicated white male from the premises.

Kimmel was injured during the arrest and spent the night in the hospital. The cause of death is still being investigated by the Medical Examiner’s office.
