Rey to be Added to Star Wars Monopoly After Fan Uproar

Now the problem will be the epic fight before all Star Wars Monopoly games over who gets to play as her character.

Hasbro's been in some hot water after its failure to include Star Wars: The Force Awakens lead character Rey in much of its merchandise. However, the company now seems to have heard fans loud and clear after they took to the internet to start a movement using the hashtag #WheresRey and #WhereisRey to demand her important (and endlessly awesome) presence. Originally, Hasbro had insisted Rey was excluded from Monopoly to prevent spoilers (okay, sure) but now, in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Hasbro has explained that Rey will be introduced in an update of the game. "We love the passion fans have for Rey," a spokesperson stated, "And are happy to announce that we will be making a running change to include her in the Monopoly: Star Wars game available later this year." Score one Twitter rage, but only literally one because there's been no announcement about the rest of the merchandise Rey's been excluded from.

As we've discussed previously, this isn't the first time a lead female character's been excluded from franchise merchandise in favor of male characters. The Avenger's Black Widow and Guardians of the Galaxy's Gamora have also suffered the same fate, and many are now starting to worry the Wonder Woman may join this depressing club when Batman vs. Superman merchandise is released.

We hope we're not tweeting #WheresWonderWoman soon and that there's finally going to be a change in the misogynistic merchandising tide. Maybe one day we could even have our own Wonder Woman, Rey, Gomora, Black Widow Monopoly. Listen up, Hasbro!
