Sexism in gaming is an ongoing problem, and the vitriol heaped on feminists like Anita Sarkeesian and the #Gamergate controversy stand testimony to how unpleasant adult misogynists can be. But there's hope for us yet - this new video by Rosalind Wiseman discusses her recent study showing that even teenage boys are annoyed and frustrated by the over-sexualisation of women in video games.
61% of high school boys believed women were treated as sex objects too much. 70% of girls and 78% of boys played games whatever the gender of the protagonist - but while boys care less about playing male characters as they age, girls care more about playing female ones. So maybe there could be a bit more Dragon Age: Inquisition and a bit less Duke Nukem Forever in our futures?
