Instagram can usually be seen as a place to display fun pics with friends or artsy snapshots of your meal, but genderqueer model Rain Dove took a completely different angle yesterday on her own account with this stunning shot and caption that discusses her identity in the fashion industry and the importance of binding safety:
"As long as I got my suit and tie... I shouldnt have to have a flat chest to be allowed to wear a suit and tie, to be called sir, or to be treated with all the benefits that society gives to "men". When I first started out modelling I was #binding my chest at gigs to make sure my physique was able to be "passable" as #male. But now, I never bind. It's highly unsafe and unhealthy! All the "mens" runways you see me do now are done without a bra and using simply energy and posture. I love my breasts, and my body... I'm a proud woman. I'm a proud man. I'm a proud human. I'm a proud whatever people think I am. Ultimately the message is about unapologetic self love. For those of you who feel binding is the only way you will feel comfortable I highly recommend purchasing a professional binder and not using makeshift materials. PM me and I'll send you links to some great brands!

The photo encouraged several positive, respectful comments that shared tips on binding safety and purchasing comfortable binders as well as general support for the genderqueer and genderfluid community. Parents even responded saying that they very well might take Rain's advice for their children in the future. It's always incredibly inspiring to see such a positive discussions started by a wonderful role model (literally!) and we appreciate Rain taking the time to share some tips and wisdom!
