Obama Expected to Name Elena Kagan to Supreme Court

President Barack Obama is expected to nominate U.S. Solicitor General Elena Kagan to serve as an associate justice on the U.S. Supreme Court, marking the first time three women will ever serve on the court at once, NBC News' Pete Williams reported late Sunday night.

Kagan would be the fourth woman to serve on the court. She served as the Dean of Harvard Law School from 2003 to 2009, and was nominated by Obama to her current post in 2009. She won Senate confirmation by a vote of 61-31.

Last month, when Kagan emerged as a leading candidate for the Supreme Court, CBS News posted an article to one of its blogs claiming Kagan is gay. The post was deleted when the White House criticized the network for making "false charges" about Kagan.
