The past few months have seen a swirl of rumors—ranging from conservative to crazy—surrounding Apple’s plans for the next generation of the company’s popular iPhone.
Thankfully, a recent report from Deutsche Bank's Chris Whitmore on CNN has effectively killed many early rumors and provides a more focused looked at Apple’s actual plans.
It seems that Apple intends to not only release a completely redesigned iPhone 5 later this year, but also an improved version of the iPhone 4 (tentatively named iPhone 4S) as a pre-paid model as well.
While the new products are expected to be unveiled by the tech company sometime in September, the latest details on the iPhone 5 claim that in addition to the phone’s brand new design it will also include several hardware upgrades including a dual LED flash—a feature that multiple smart phones already include. Additionally, the iPhone 4S is rumored to be a speedier version of the current iPhone and will feature a variety of pre-paid plans.
The idea to release two new iPhones at once might strike some as an odd business choice, but if Apple does indeed have their sites set on penetrating the mid range smart-phone market—especially in other countries—dual iPhones could be the answer.
Unlike in the US, iPhone penetration is low in other parts of the world, such as Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Customers in these places prefer to make the full payment on the their phones upfront and use prepaid plans for the service.
