Orange is the New Black Writer Lauren Morelli Divorces Husband, Is Now Dating Poussey Actress Samira Wiley

As avid Orange is the New Black viewers, we spend a lot of time thinking about the characters we'd love to see in romantic relationships. However, it turns out the real love story wasn't on screen but behind-the-scenes, and OITNB writer Lauren Morelli and Poussey actress Samira Wiley are officially our new favorite couple in the entertainment industry.

As many may remember, last May OITNB writer Lauren Morelli wrote a blog post on identites.mic detailing how writing for the show, specifically the love scenes between Piper Chapman and Alex Vause, helped her realize that she is a lesbian. "I was nervous about the first love scene I'd written for Alex and Piper. I'd loved writing it, loved watching a tenderness emerge in their relationship where passion always seemed to be the ruling principle, but by that time, I was so deep in my own self-doubt that I constantly felt like a fraud. I was sure it was bleeding into my writing. How could it not? I was married to a man, but I wasn't straight," Lauren wrote in her touching, personal post, "As I watched Taylor Schilling and Laura film the scene, one of our producers (as it happened, a gay woman) tapped me on the shoulder. She pointed at the screen and gave me a thumb's up. It was a small gesture, but my first step toward feeling accepted and quietly accepting myself. In Piper and Alex, I'd found a mouthpiece for my own desires and a glimmer of what my future could look like."

At the time, 31-year-old Lauren had just married Steve, a man she'd been dating for six years. However, once she discovered the truth about her sexuality she couldn't go back, and this month she and Steve amicably filed for a joint divorce. In the meantime, Lauren and Samira haven't been keeping their relationship too quiet. Anyone following their Instagram accounts have been clued into the couple's cuteness, and they were even each other's Emmy dates at the ceremony in August.
