After a 10-hour drive from Atlanta, involving two McDonalds, one surprisingly cruisy rest stop in Virginia, and getting lost somewhere in Baltimore, I'm finally here, queer and ready to march!
Well, actually it's late, we just drove 10 hours and right now I'm ready to enjoy several $15 dollar martinis and a $25 turkey burger. My crew, a bunch of well-groomed if underemployed homos, is pouring over tomorrow's itinerary. It's not just a march, people, it's an adventure.
Lt. Dan Choi is sitting here in the restaurant with us. Well, not with us, he's sitting on the other side of the room. But still, it's making us feel very gay and important. Choi, for those of you who may have missed it, was discharged from the military for being gay after coming out on the Rachel Maddow show back in March. Not willing to quietly accept his fate, he's become an important voice in the fight to repeal DADT.
Tomorrow morning we're heading out to hear Choi and others speak at Arlington National Cemetery, during a ceremonial wreath laying at the tomb of the unknowns. Tune back in to SheWired throughout the day for more posts. I'll keep you updated every step of the way.
