Promoting her new release Stronger Kelly Clarkson appeared on The View,  and she commented on those pesky lesbian rumors – again! But the entire interview was rather charming. Thanks to AfterEllen for pointing this one out!

Wearing a lovely dress, Kelly took a seat on the couch among The View cohosts, pulling the dress over her knees as she sat down and joking, “I’m going to try not to Sharon Stone the camera,” referring to Stone’s famous leg parting scene in Basic Instinct.

Cohost Joy Behar mentioned that Kelly writes a lot of break-up songs but Kelly explained that she often writes metaphorically so that her songs are not all just boy / girl break up songs.

The conversation inevitably veered toward Kelly’s lack of a love life, which she attributes to her being so focused on her music while she’s still young.

“That’s why people think I’m gay, because I’m not married,” Kelly exclaimed, elaborating that in her small hometown in Texas, if a woman is single at Kelly’s age of 29 she’s essentially an old maid.

And then Kelly endeared herself to her lesbian fans even more by referencing the great Victorian novelist Jane Austen saying that as far as people at home are concerned, “her glow is gone,” like an old maid in an Austen novel.

Later, Kelly, who played basketball in 8th grade, shot some hoops with cohosts Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd. The big-piped original Idol may not be a lesbian but she sure knows how to pull our heartstrings!
