Comedian and actress Margaret Cho discover her family history on this Sunday’s episode of Finding Your Roots on PBS.

Finding Your Roots explores race, culture and identity through genetics and genealogy of America’s best-known personalities. Sunday’s episode will feature Cho, Martha Stewart, and chief medical correspondent for CNN, Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

All three guests are children of first or second-generation immigrants, from all parts of the globe. The experiences of families leaving their homes in India, Korea and Poland, overlap in unexpected ways as the Hollywood stars’ families made their way to America.

Cho, who currently co-stars on Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva, has never explored her Korea heritage, despite frequently mentioning it in her comedy acts. On Finding Your Roots, research teams are able to trace her ancestry to her 20th great-grandfather, and find connections to a prestigious clan in modern day North Korea. Choices made by her ancestors and their country’s political turmoil over the last 50 years have cut off ties to Cho’s family’s past.

Finding Your Roots airs Sundays at 8:00pm EST on PBS.

Upcoming episodes of the series look into the family histories of Wanda Sykes, Margaret Cooper, Michelle Rodriguez and Linda Chavez.
