Watch: Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Promo - Will Arizona Survive?

It feels as though it’s been forever since the finale of Grey’s Anatomy Season 8 aired, so this promo, however vague it may be, is a welcome sight. Let the countdown to Season 9 begin!

Last we left the beloved docs of Seattle Grace, some were trying to survive after a plane crash while the rest weren’t even aware the first group was missing. Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) little sister Lexie (Chyler Leigh) was the first casualty, while Meredith, Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) all seemed to be doing ok, save for some cuts, bruises and hunger.

Here’s where it gets bad. Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), the gorgeous wife of Callie (Sara Ramirez), and Mark (Eric Dane), the baby daddy to Arizona and Callie’s daughter, both suffered serious injuries in the crash, and either one (or both) could share Lexie’s fate.

Arizona had a broken leg, with her femur poking through her skin, and was coughing up blood. Mark had some kind of internal injury (his whole torso was basically purple), which prompted Meredith and Cristina to open him up – in the middle of the woods – to do some crazy surgery.

In the promo below we see one or more of the docs who were still alive at the end of Season 8 on a gurney being pushed through a hospital that is definitely not Seattle Grace. This of course leaves us with more questions than before we watched the promo. Also, don’t forget that back in July, Grey’s show runner Shonda Rhimes told THR of the possibility that Lexie won’t be the only fatality. Mark is leaving the show, but the circumstances of his departure are still unknown.

Let’s all just hope that Arizona, general badass that she is, fights her way through her injuries and returns to Callie and Sofia in one piece.
