An LGBT Film Festival favorite, nominated for nine Argentinian Academy Awards, The Fish Child, comes to DVD Tuesday, July 26.
If you’ve ever complained there aren’t enough interesting stories being told with lesbian protagonists, this is an intriguing chance whet your appetite for a lesbian love story about two fascinating females on the run.
SheWired’s own Rebekah Allen reviewed Fish Child at Reeling 29: The Chicago Gay and Lesbian Film Fest and found the movie, “emotionally charged and deeply engaging... The Fish Child is one of the darkest movies I’ve ever seen, and not just in terms of content. Every shot is literally soaked a grainy darkness that immediately sets the tone, and presumably symbolizes just how bleak the two leads’ futures are. The leads in question are Lala (Ines Efron) and Ailin (Mariela Vitale Emme), who have been in love for six years since Ailin arrived from Paraguay to work for Lala’s family. The two have been trying to save enough money to run to Paraguay together, but their plan is made less plausible when Lala’s famous father turns up dead.”
Queer Movie Blog says, “One of the more unusual lesbian love stories we’ve seen, The Fish Child is a stunning and unforgettable drama.”
