It’s official: princesses are out and villains are the new It Girls. At least, we can’t be expected to believe anything else when a stunning and evily angular Angelina Jolie graces newsstands on Entertainment Weeklythis March 7th as the embodiment of Sleeping Beauty’s Big Bad, Maleficent. Well, if this is the stuff that nightmares are made of, sign us up! In the upcoming issue, Angelina breaks down the importance of a well-told villain backstory, her kids’ fearful reactions to her wicked get-up, and how her and Brad Pitt’s youngest daughter Vivienne even scored a role as young Aurora (pro-tip: don’t be afraid of those crazy cheekbones). But it’s not all madness and magic spells. Angelina also discusses the reactions regarding her headline-making health decisions as well as her upcoming directing endeavor/true-story World War II film, Unbroken.
But for now, let’s take a moment to appreciate what make-up artists and some chilling acting can bring to life. Sure, we’ve seen some killer trailer footage, but the wait for the real deal on May 30th is villainous itself. Check out the trailer for Maleficent (which also stars Elle Fanning, Juno Temple, and Black Sails’ Hannah New) below, and prepare to be mesmerized. Bonus points for Lana Del Rey’s haunting rendition of “Once Upon a Dream.” Here’s to the bad girls!
