Fans Call Cops To Britney Spears' Home After She Deletes Instagram

Another controversy is plaguing the life of Britney Spears this week.

It all started when the popstar suddenly changed her Instagram name to River Red. Some fans were concerned that this was a reference to 1998’s River Red, a film about a young man killing his abusive, alcoholic father. Following that name change, Spears’ Instagram profile was deleted. As of this writing, the @britneyspears account is still deactivated.

According to TMZ, worried fans called the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, January 25 to alert the police that the popstar was potentially in danger. TMZ subsequently reported the following update on this situation:

“Deputies from the sheriff's office then went out to Britney’s home and determined there was no reason to believe she was in danger. It’s unclear if they spoke to Britney directly, or if someone else assured them she was okay.”

There’s some controversy within Spears’ fanbase regarding these actions of calling the police on behalf of the singer’s safety. Some people insist that Spears could’ve been in danger and thus calling the cops was justified. However, many fans argue that actions like these contribute to the narrative that she is mentally unwell – which led her to being trapped in a conservatorship in the first place.

Spears has thanked her dedicated supporters for helping her get out of her long-standing conservatorship. Alas, the singer has also repeatedly noted that she doesn’t want outsiders meddling into her personal life now that she’s regaining control over it.

Given that Spears has always had a back-and-forth relationship with social media, there were numerous reasons why she could’ve deactivated her Instagram account… many of which have nothing to do with her needing assistance from law enforcement. In fact, Spears has deleted her Instagram account a few times in the past, so this isn’t anything unheard-of.
