Anti Gay Activists Lobby Against Proposed Harvey Milk Day

Anti gay activists are storming the California State Capitol in Sacramento to lobby against the proposed Harvey Milk Bill today. The Capitol Resource Institute seeks to urge lawmakers to oppose what it calls 'homosexual indoctrination' in public schools.

Anti-gay activists are storming the California State Capitol in Sacramento to lobby against the proposed Harvey Milk Bill today.

The Capitol Resource Institute will lobby "to urge lawmakers to oppose the 'homosexual indoctrination' presented by SB 572, which would create a Harvey Milk Day in public schools..." the Capitol Morning Report reported.

The subject of an Oscar Nominated film, Harvey Milk was a gay rights activist and the country's first openly gay elected official, who was slain by his fellow San Francisco Supervisor.

State Senator Mark Leno and Academy Award winner Sean Penn sought to reintroduce a bill to officially recognize Milk's birthday.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed the same bill last year on the basis that a Harvey Milk Day should occur only in San Francisco and not statewide.

The Capitol Resource Institute has previously stated of the attempt to pass a Harvey Milk Day that, "This is yet another example of the campaign to normalize homosexual behavior not just in schools, but in our culture. We must continue to defend our traditional values despite the effort to demolish the very values that established and sustain our nation."

Equality California is asking Californians to contact their legislators to express how Harvey Milk Day would positively impact the LGBT community, specifically gay youth.
