Taron Egerton Says He Feels 'At Home' in Gay Clubs

"I’m not someone who really subscribes to this binary view of male and female archetypes or ways of behaving," the Rocketman star also told British GQ

In addition to filming gay sex scenes, Taron Egerton apparently also loves going to gay clubs more than going to sporting events. (I mean, don't we all???)

"I always felt more at home in a gay club than at a football match, far more at home," the British actor, (who plays Elton John in Paramount's upcoming musical biopic Rocketmantold British GQ in a cover story, talking about being more comfortable in queer spaces than in the uber-masculine box he's been put in since his breakthrough role in 2015's Kingsman: The Secret Service.

He continued:

"I’m not someone who really subscribes to this binary view of male and female archetypes or ways of behaving. Our concept of what a straight man or gay man looks like or is expected to behave in 20 years will be nothing like it is now."

While Taron's portrayal of rock legend Elton John is one audiences are very eager to see (especially considering the box office success of last year's highly-controversial Queen/Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody), Rocketman is also making some concerning, head-scratching headlines for reportedly cutting down on a gay sex between Taron and Richard Madden (who play's Elton John's manager/lover John Reid).

Fortunately for fans, the Rocketman director has refuted these claims, and Taron has also already assured us that a movie about the life of one of the entertainment industry's biggest queer icons will, indeed, have queer love scenes.

"It’s nonsense. There is a love scene in the film," Taron said when asked about the controversy by Variety host Marc Malkin during an appearance at CinemCon last week. "It’s been slightly blown out of proportion how extreme it is. I think it’s a really beautiful bit of male intimacy. It’s one moment in a film that I believe is full of great moments."

Rocketman hits theaters on May 31. Watch the trailer in the video below.
