DC Comics, home to characters such as Wonder Woman, Batgirl, and Supergirl, has announced that the Amazing Amazon and her Super-friends will be receiving a company-wide makeover in September of this year by ending their entire line of comics and re-launching with 52 new first issues.

The announcement came as a surprise to long-time fans with reactions ranging from anger to praise for the bold move.

According to Dan DiDio, Co-Publishers of DC Comics, the company-wide change will be done in an effort to, “…inject new life in our characters and line. This was a chance to start, not at the beginning, but at a point where our characters are younger and the stories are being told for today's audience.”

While major changes are occuring across the landscape of DC Comics, Wonder Woman appears to be one of the characters most affected by the new direction. Not only will the new #1 issue of the Amazon Princess be a new beginning for the comic book, it appears that she will be younger with a new origin and wear a completely new costume as well. This news comes hot on the heels of last year's announcement of the previous makeover Wonder Woman currently sports in her monthly comic.

Time will tell if this new direction will bode well for the first female of superheroes.
