At the intersection of '80s inspired J-pop and "sad gay electronic" music, you'll find TWINKIDS.
Composed of Gene and Matt, the Los Angeles-based duo offer a sweeping and nostalgic snapshot of relationships, oftentimes from the point of view of the person breaking hearts.
Their new EP Lizard House includes "Eighteen," a reminder of all the promises you make when you enter that first relationship that will inevitably fall apart, and "Psycho," a syrupy yet savage track that almost reads like a post-breakup questionnaire. "Did you cry when I was gone?" frontman Gene asks over the synthy dance beat.
"You know when you're walking home from the club and you haven't met anybody and you're sad and gonna get food at home," that's when you should listen to their music, Matt told PRIDE.
In our exclusive interview, the duo had a blast chatting about their music new and old, life post-tour with Matt and Kim, their Japenese musical influences, that feeling of “Do I laugh or cry when I’m listening to this?” and being a part of the wave of openly queer artists in pop music who sing about who they love unflinchingly.
"I just feel like it's better that way," said Gene. "It's just genuine."
