Steve Gaines, the editor of Kentucky's Bowling Green Daily News, issued a statement this week about Obergefell and what it means for the paper.
"This newspaper has always believed that marriage is between one man and one woman. We are still of that opinion, and we will continue to stand by that opinion moving forward," he wrote.
Clearly, Steve Gaines wants you all to know that the paper is SUPER DUPER NOT OKAY with men marrying men and women marrying women.
Do not worry, readers of Bowling Green! Although this paper will be publishing same-sex engagement and marriage announcements, it is only doing it because "laws." It doesn't agree. Seriously. So please don't stop reading the Bowling Green Daily News even when you find a marriage announcement that is utterly scandalous. We promise it is only because "we are a nation of laws," and not because we agree with marriage equality. We know that our readers are bigots. "We empathize with their thoughts on this controversial matter and hope through time they will support our decision and understand that we must follow the law of the land."
In other news, I now fully intend to have my upcoming marriage flamboyantly announced in the Bowling Green Daily News.
