Three same-sex couples are suing to overturn the state's ban on gay marriage after failing to secure marriage licenses, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Duane Gajewski and Doug Benson, Lindzi Campbell and Jesse Dykhuis, John Rittman and Tom Trisko have organized a group called Marry Me Minnesota in an effort to spark statewide interest in the marriage fight.

The group is challenging the state's Defense of Marriage Act because it violates the "single subject" rule of the Minnesota Constitution.  As it is written, Article 4 of the state constitution states that "no law shall embrace more than one subject."

The suit also seeks to overturn a 1971 Minnesota Supreme Court ruling that prohibits marriages between same-sex partners.
