When the England women's football team landed at Heathrow yesterday following their third-place victory in the Women's World Cup, they flipped out their phones to be greeted by a grotesquely patronising "congratulatory" tweet from the English Football Association. Despite the fact that most of them were returning home to continue their lives as pro footballers, lawyers, scientists, etc, Britain's main football body saw fit to assume that their existences were still defined by traditional feminine roles. Of course they did. Oh, le sigh. Imagine if it had been the other way round? "Our #Lions go back to being fathers, partners and sons today, but they have taken on another title - heroes." Nah. Yet more proof - as if we hadn't given you enough lately - that women's football needs our support! Interestingly, the offending tweet has since been deleted. Admission of guilt much?
If this Tweet alone does not spark outrage, then you really need to see what FIFA is doing with gender testing women.
