Church janitor and openly gay pastor's kid, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, went viral earlier this month with a stunning performance of an original song, 'Almost Heaven,' on American Idol.
Harmon wowed the judges again this week with a beautiful performance of Fleetwood Mac’s 'Landslide.' In a series of cuts during the emotional song, Harmon shares that he hoped to dedicate the performance to his parents who weren't in attendance because they didn't agree with his sexuality.
“They were really on my mind when I sang that," said Harmon. "I just want them to know that I love them and I tried to communicate that."
After hugging his boyfriend, Harmon breaks down about feeling estranged from his family. “I just gotta keep telling myself that I can do this. I’m doing this for me. I’m doing this for everyone who’s been outcast by their loved ones. I know that this isn’t just my experience and if I can be open about it and vulnerable then maybe that can bring hope to somebody else."
It's clear that the judges, particularly Katy Perry, believe in Harmon as he was selected to go on to the live rounds. She shares when she broke out in the music industry with 'I Kissed A Girl' and her parents didn't approve of her image.
"It was difficult for me because I felt very alone in what was really supposed to be a very exciting time in my life," she told Harmon. "From one pastor's kid to another, I see you and I love you and I accept you and I'm so proud of you.
