Controversial YouTuber Logan Paul is speaking out in defense of controversial YouTuber James Charles.
Charles was called out last week by fellow beauty guru Tati Westbrook, who accused him of, well, a lot of things — the video was 43 minutes long. But one of her complaints was Charles’s supposed behavior around straight men.
“You are using your fame, your power, your money to play with people’s emotions,” she said. “You’re threatening to ruin them, you’re threatening to embarrass them and you’re doing that to have them behave sexually in your favor, even if they’re straight.”
Paul stepped in by addressing the feud on his podcast.
“Am I defending James Charles? Absolutely not,” he said, clarifying multiple times that he doesn’t like the guy.
“I’m saying, easy when y’all puff your chest out, put your chin up, and call him a sexual predator. Like, really think about what you’re saying, and really think about a true sexual predator is.”
Charles posted his own apology video shortly after Westbrook’s went viral. In it, he said that boys were a topic he wished he hadn’t talked about so much publicly.
“I’ve been in a lot of very unique, strange situations that have left people confused or upset,” he said. “And I’ve learned the hard way about ways that I can interact with people that I’m interested in, and also ones that I should or shouldn’t be talking to.”
His vague response hasn’t stopped him from losing nearly three million subscribers so far — something Paul says he doesn’t understand.
“Dude, this all seems so fucking petty to me,” he said.
“Y’all feel so empowered when you call James Charles a sexual predator. Easy with words that hold so much weight when James Charles, a gay dude, is trying to hook up with a straight dude. We’ve seen that before. Sure it’s not ‘correct,’ but bro, James Charles ain’t ‘predating’ anyone.”
