A Google Doc Titled Am I A Lesbian? Helped Kehlani Realize She Was Gay

The one and only Kehlani stopped by the Impaulsive podcast with controversial social media star Logan Paul to discuss sexuality, trans issues, a coyote killing her Yorkie, trauma bonding, and so much more – but the juciest bit of the conversation was that the R&B superstar only realized she was gay with the help of a google doc.

Kehlani has identified as bisexual for years but only came out as a lesbian in 2021, pointing out that "everyone knew but me" and "the f*cking closet was glass."

Now, the Grammy nominee has realized that much of her previous attractions to men was compulsatory. She dated men because she felt like she had to recreate this “white picket fence mom and dad” fantasy and when she never felt herself truly falling for them, she says she “quite frankly just thought maybe I was like, somehow broken."

“The ability to dissociate in a relationship and during sex and with connection, I thought maybe I had been through too much or I wasn’t meeting the right people, I kept trying.”

Therapy was a lightbulb moment for her, especially after the professional suggested Kehlani might be gay rather than bi and sent her a Google Doc titled Am I A Lesbian?

“I read the f**k out of this Google Doc and when I had to sit and analyze why I was still dating men, none of it had to do with being in love. None of it had to do with these feelings that I am supposed to feel and love and care and deep emotion." Kehlani says that realization made the floodgates open. “As soon as I said, ‘I’m not doing that anymore’, I came out. My relationships and my ability to feel deeply for anybody I was romantically with was like, ‘oh I have been missing this my whole life.'”The "Nights Like This" singer also shared what exactly she likes about women. “It is the softness, attentiveness, care, a deeper understanding of life. Two women being able to share that experience together I feel is like a mind warp of what love is.
