Fans are speculating that Nic Hamilton’s new single “SPINS” was really written by the Grammy award winner.

Australian singer-songwriter Nic Hamilton just released his new single “SPINS” in time for Pride Month, but fans are already speculating that another famous musician may be behind the lyrics of this gay love song.

The uplifting piano ballad with easy going lyrics has drawn comparisons to Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect,” leading many fans to wonder if the four-time Grammy winner wrote the song.

While Hamilton is quick to point out that he wrote the song himself after going on a second date with his boyfriend Jackson, his two million followers on social media believe otherwise.

“I wrote ‘SPINS’ the morning after our second date,” Hamilton said in an interview with LGBTQ Nation. “My hungover brain needed to put the story of our date on paper, otherwise I was going to forget how much love I felt for this guy the night prior.”

The 23-year-old released his first single in 2021, but this time around he was excited to release his incredibly gay love ballad during Pride Month.

“Whether it’s the gay pride of it all, the cute story, or the obvious, apparent love throughout the track, I just hope people see some of themselves in the song, or perhaps what they hope for themselves,” he said. “It’s also such a great feeling to be able to release this song during Pride Month, and I feel proud to be part of a community where I can be unabashedly myself.”

While Sheeran isn’t responsible for “SPINS,” Hamilton does want to emulate his career path.

“I’ve also started to think about writing for other people, because I just enjoy writing so much, so in that sense I freaking idolize Ed Sheeran,” he told Beyond the Stage in 2021. “The way he can just write for someone else and it sounds like they wrote it, how he can fit into someone else’s shoes perfectly like that is incredible.”

Not only can this multi-hyphenate write music and sing, but he’s also an actor. You may even recognize him for the roles he played in Stephen Kings’ IT and the Academy-Award-nominated film Captain Fantastic, for which he also features on the soundtrack.
