People Are Already Complaining About Netflix's 'Dear White People'

Some people claim the upcoming show is "anti-white."

Netflix announced the release of their latest series Dear White People yesterday, and from the looks of it, the project (which is based on  Justin Simien's 2014 movie of the same name) is a comedic but realistic depiction of what people of color, especially Black people, go through while occupying a space that is majority white (in this case, a prestigious college).

A show like this is very much needed in today's political and social climate, but that didn't stop the backlash the show and Netflix are receiving from trolls on the internet (the main criticism from people in the Twittersphere being that the series is "anti-white").

The thing is, a show's portrayal of people of color asking white people to acknowledge their privilege and see what kinds of things they have to go through that white people don't isn't anti-white. And there are people out there who totally understand that.

Watch the trailer for Dear White People—which drops on April 28—in the video below, and let us know your thoughts in the comments and on Twitter.
