Pretty Little Liars Halloween Event Promises Thrills, Chills and Emily's First Secret Crush

It’s a big day for Pretty Little Liars fans with the Halloween Event, entitled "The First Secret," airing tonight. It’s a big day for Pretty Little Liars fans with the Halloween Event, entitled "The First Secret," airing tonight. And while photos of the liars in their Halloween costumes have making the rounds for some time, more and more teasers are getting out about the episode, including the fact that Alison (Sasha Pieterse) was not Rosewood’s adorable resident lesbian Emily’s (Shay Mitchell) first secret love.

The Halloween Event, essentially a stand-alone prequel –- or origin story -- flashes back to a time when Alison was still alive and tormenting everyone at school, when “A” began his / her reign as the ultimate blackmailer via technology, when Jenna (Tammin Sursok) still had her sight and when Emily purportedly had a burgeoning crush on someone else.

While Emily’s had her share of girl crushes / relationships in PLL’s 1.5 seasons, AfterEllen's Heather Hogan had this to say about whomever the original apple of Emily’s eye was --“Alison wasn't the first girl Emily had eyes for — In fact, the original conduit for Emily's gayness is such an awesome surprise that I paused my screener to clap and laugh for ten full minutes when it happened."

Now that’s quite an endorsement that suggests viewers must have already met Em’s first crush, so it’s most likely got to be one of her other bffs Hanna (Ashley Benson), Spencer (Troian Bellisario) or Aria (Lucy Hale). And there are arguments for why it could be any one of them.

First, Emily does have a soft spot for blonds – see Alison and Samara - so it could be Hanna during her “hefty” years. Or, Aria had that little punk streak with her outfits and her pink hair, so who wouldn’t love her? Or, Spencer’s got the husky voice and the Nancy Drew can-do spirit, so that would be a likely choice. Still, it could be Jenna before she started hooking up with her stepbrother – but who wants to go there? Or Hanna's parnter in shoplifting Mona (Janel Parrish)... Hmmm.

No matter what, the reviews are in and the Halloween Event is getting glowing accolades for it’s one-off episode. And horror film fans can get excited because producer Marlene King promises that the episode pays homage John Carpenter's classic slasher flick Halloween, which starred Jamie Lee Curtis as the “Final Girl” who survives and outwits a maniacial killer terrorizing a small town. Sound familiar? Only this time it looks as though we have four final girls outwitting the killer.

Don't miss Pretty Little Liars special episode airing tonight on ABC Family.
