When the first pics of Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut film Whip It began circulating last summer, I already knew I was in love. Put an admitted bisexual vixen like Barrymore at the helm of a spanking new movie starring cutie Ellen Page as a virgin roller ring combatant and it’s almost like my yummiest fantasies have come to life on the silver screen.
There is just something about watching tough girls on skates bash into each other at top speed that sets my heart to pounding. And those skimpy little punk outfits getting ripped up and mangled – oh stop it, it’s just too much. I admit it, I have a fetish. With a cast full of hotties like Zoe Bell, Juliette Lewis and miss Drew herself, Whip It promises to be a virtual lesbian soft-porn flick in the making. Yes, there is the whole annoying straight girl hooks up with geeky boy storyline, but that can be easily ignored in favor of sitting back and enjoying the deliciousness of the supporting cast.
Whip It stars Page as rebellious teen Bliss Cavendar, who flees her mother’s (Marcia Gay Harden) obsession with beauty pageants and joins the Austin, Texas Hurl Girls roller derby team. Team vets Smashley Simpson (Barrymore) and Malice in Wonderland (Kristin Wiig) take the noob roller basher in hand and teach her the joys of hardcore girl-on-girl contact.
Whip It isn’t due for release until October, but the new trailer just out is a good sign it may be well worth the wait.
