Previously known for his dynamic short films, Amartya Bhattacharya takes on the challenge of writer, cinematographer, editor, and director for his first independent feature film Capital I (an Existential Psychodrama).
Bhattacharya creates a world full of symbolism, in-depth ideas, and even incorporates the supernatural through Capital I -- a mysterious figure that Bhattacharya’s leading female character, Piyali, begins to develop an interest in after learning that Capital I is transforms people psychologically.
It’s also through Piyali that a lesbian theme begins to develop when she begins to fall into a trance and begins hallucinating about a lesbian partner after being sexually dissatisfied with her submissive boyfriend. The film will make its debut at the South Asian Alternative Film Festival in November, but in the meantime check out the trailer.
