The Last of Us' Bella Ramsey Thanks 'Gay Army' Before Quitting Twitter

Bella Ramsey, the star of HBO's Game of Thrones and most recently The Last Of Us, is making their exit from the social media app Twitter.

The 19-year-old announced the news on Friday, specifically giving a shout out to their LGBTQ+ fans. "Twitter, it’s been fun. My account will still be active for now, but I will not be on here! Thank you, my gay army and all the rest. Love you."

"Gay army" is a reference to Ramsey's legion of fans from The Last of Us who became very protective over the nonbinary actor after she received some homophobic backlash.

Their departure from the social media platform happened just days after Twitter manually removed their legacy blue checkmarks from celebrities and public figures. As impersonations of former verified accounts spiked, many celebrities, news organizations, and public figures have decided to leave the platform to avoid the potential spread of misinformation. It's not clear if Ramsey left for this reason, but the timing does leave the implication. You can still follow Ramsey on Twitter and Instagram, but it seems like posts will come from her team instead of her.

Ramsey came out as genderfluid earlier this year on Transgender Day of Visibility. “Happy TDOV to this little dude," they wrote. "I didn’t know the word non-binary in this picture. But I knew what it meant. Inherently. Because I always was, and always will be. Lotsa love to all of my trans enby and gender funky friends."
