Rumors of how Plaza fits into the MCU have been ramping up.

Official news about the highly anticipated WandaVision spin-off has been slow, but rumors are still popping. And the latest one involves Aubrey Plaza’s character.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos centers around Kathryn Hahn’s titular character who was introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a powerful witch and villainous nemesis to Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen). It’s unclear whether her new series will bring Agatha Harkness closer to the comics, where she’s more of a mentor than a big bad, even if she doesn’t always have the best of intentions.

It’s previously been rumored that Plaza would take on the villain role in Coven of Chaos, although further details have been scarce. But according to the Twitter @CanWeGetToast, the Ingrid Goes West actress will be playing Agatha’s “CRAZY and OBSESSIVE” ex-girlfriend, a witch by the name of Rio Vidal.

Now, these rumors are completely unsubstantiated for the time being, and this isn’t the first time rumors about the nature of Plaza’s role have circulated. It’s also been suggested in the past that she might be bringing Mephisto to the MCU, or even be taking on the role of Death herself.

While we’re definitely taking this latest development with a grain of salt, queering up the overwhelmingly heterosexual MCU with Aubrey Plaza and Kathryn Hahn would be a gift to us all.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos is currently expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2024, although it remains to be seen whether it will be delayed further due to the ongoing Hollywood strikes.
