5 Reasons You Should Be Excited for X-Men: Apocalypse
The new trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse dropped today — and boy, oh boy, does it look good! But why should we care about a bunch of mutant teens and their fight to save the world?
1. We are the X-Men
The story of the X-Men has always resonated with the LGBTQ community. Mutants are misunderstood, shunned, feared. Governments have tried to take away their rights, scientists have tried to experiment on them, extremists have tried to wipe them out. These are some pretty heavy themes that echo some of the darkest moments of LGBTQ history.
2. Jennifer Lawrence
JLaw has never been shy about, well, anything. She's quirky, she's not afraid to be herself and she definitely supports her LGBTQ friends, colleagues and fans. So let's support her, too!
3. STORM!
Ok, if you're not aware, Storm is probably the most popular superhero among gay fans? Why? Just look at her! And in this iteration, Halle Berry takes a backseat to newcomer Alexandra Shipp. And we're loving that mohawk!
4. Going bald isn't all bad
Not everyone needs luscious locks to be beautiful! And no one proves that better than Professor X himself. Make sure to watch till the end of the trailer — looks like we're going to get our first peek at actor James McAvoy sans hair!
5. Jean Grey and Cyclops
We fell in love with this tragic pair in the original X-Men movies, and now we get to do it again, '80s style! Plus, young Jean Grey is none other than Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner. Let's hope her character has better luck than Sansa Stark!
