That's one way to celebrate the season.

Being nice to the less-than-accepting family of the person you’re seeing seems to be a rite of passage most LGBTQ+ people still have to deal with at least once. But one TikToker’s experience got cranked up to the next level after she had to perform CPR on her girlfriend’s “homophobic Grandma” over Christmas.

Lizzy Bristow (@bodybydaddy) has spent the holidays with her girlfriend’s family before and says that they’re all on great terms, but grandma joined this year after missing out previously. Her uncomfortable question of whether Lizzy was “the boy” in the relationship didn’t get things off on great footing.

But at the end of dinner, things took a dark turn, and Lizzy had to step up.

“The brother notices that the grandmother is chewing, looking down, and she can’t swallow something. She’s really struggling. ‘Grandma, are you okay?’ She’s still struggling. ‘Grandma, are you okay? Grandma, are you choking?’” the TikToker recalled. “All of a sudden, her face turns blue.”

One of the 91-year-old’s relatives attempted to help, but didn’t really know what they were doing, so Lizzy, who is CPR certified, jumped in.

“I am thrusting as hard as I can,” she said. “I am eight thrusts deep when she just passes out.”

Lizzy laid her down and did chest compressions for some time before grandma’s lungs started working again and the food she had choked on worked its way back up.

“I felt like I won the Super Bowl. And I never want to do that again,” she admitted.

In a follow-up video, Lizzy gave an update on her girlfriend’s grandma, showing her recovering in the hospital — from the incident as well as from Lizzy apparently breaking “every single one of her ribs” while saving her.

She also answered a popular question among viewers regarding the older woman’s thoughts once she found out her granddaughter’s girlfriend is the reason she’s still breathing.

“She didn’t say anything to me afterwards because she didn’t know, she was unconscious, and then as soon as she started breathing on her own, the firefighters came in,” Lizzy said. “So she actually didn’t know I was the one who did it until my girlfriend told her. And then she said I did a good job because all of her ribs were broken but in the same place.”

Hopefully by the time next Christmas comes around, grandma will remember that she’s got a lot to be thankful for — including Lizzy.
