Watch: Rachel Maddow Says Republicans 'Shellacked' by Election
In her first episode since the November 6 elections, out news anchor Rachel Maddow eviscerated the myths Republicans have been unsuccessfully trying to convince Americans to believe for the past two years.
Rachel Maddow was on a tear during her show on Wednesday, her first chance to offer an unvarnished take on why Republicans lost the presidency and a bunch of competitive Senate races.
It started with her takedown of Mitt Romney's list of policy positions and character flaws, seeming grateful that "we're not going to" do any of them.
"We are not going to have as a president a man who once led a mob of friends to run down a scared gay kid, to hold him down and forcibly cut his hair off with a pair of scissors while that kid cried and screamed for help," Maddow said among her list. "And there was no apology, not ever."
Then she rattled off a list of major wins for liberals, including marriage equality passing not just for the first time but repeatedly. "They voted on marriage equality, and they voted for it," Maddow declared. She also included our first openly gay U.S. senator and the failure of the right-wing to kick a gay-friendly judge from the Iowa bench.
As almost always, Maddow saved the best for last. She went after Fox News and the Republican Party for living in a "bubble" void of facts, regaling viewers with a third list — this one, of all the myths they believe.
"Ohio really did go to President Obama last night," Maddow said. "And he really did win. And he really was born in Hawaii. And he really is, legitimately, President of the United States. Again. And the Bureau of Labor Statistics did not make up a fake unemployment rate last month. And the Congressional Research Service really can find no evidence that cutting taxes on rich people grows the economy. And the polls were not skewed to over-sample Democrats. And Nate Silver was not making up fake projections about the election to make conservatives feel bad. Nate Silver was doing math. And climate change is real. And rape really does cause pregnancy sometimes. And evolution is a thing! And Benghazi was an attack on us, it was not a scandal by us. And nobody is taking away anyone's guns. And taxes have not gone up. And the deficit is dropping, actually."
