The latest casting call for CW's Supergirl is reportedly looking for transgender actresses to play a "significant character" on the show.
According to ComicBook.com, the character will be Nia Nal, open ethnicity and in her early 20s and described as "a confident, wunderkind of a fashionista. Once a political speechwriter, Nia is the newest addition to the CatCo investigative reporting team. With her she brings sparkling wit and biting humor but under that banter-y, chic facade, lays a soulful young woman who has much to offer the world.”
Screen Rant hypothesizes Nal could be the next head of CatCo. "Both the company and Kara's career as a journalist have been pushed to the back-burner in Supergirl season 3, in the face of the immediate threat posed by the Worldkiller Reign. With the Reign storyline on-course to be resolved by the end of the season, that will free up season 4 to focus more attention on Kara's day to day life when she's not suited up and protecting National City from other-worldly dangers (her job at CatCo included)."
This is an exciting move for the LGBT-inclusive superhero series, which already features the openly lesbian character Alex Danvers. As long as the CW doesn't pull a Matt Bomer on us and cast a cisgender person for the role of Nia Nal, we couldn't be more hyped for the next season, coming this fall!
