As Gabrielle Giffords recovers in Arizona, her colleagues on Capitol Hill floor are promising to tone down the meanness as they get back to work this week.
New York Senator Chuck Schumer spoke on Meet the Press, saying that "violent discourse in political life - right, left or center - is wrong, and should be rejected."
Arizona Rep. Jeff Flake appeared on Face the Nation, and said he thinks they will "find that's more effective from both sides, but keeping that into the future is going to be a tough thing."
That is especially true this week, since the House will vote on whether to repeal health care reform. Despite their differences, senators say they will sit together during the State of the Union address next week - their first exercise in being civil.
