Last week, Dayna Morales, a former Marine and a waitress at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, N.J. posted on Facebook about a family that stiffed her a tip citing, “I don’t agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life.” This came after the customer, a mom with two kids, had insulted Dayna saying that “Dan” was a name that suited her better than Dayna.
As things sometimes do on the internet, Dayna’s story went viral, and she’s experienced an outpouring of support, some of it in the form of tips that have added up to about $2,000, according to The New Civil Rights Movement. But rather than pocket the money raised, Dayna has decided to donate it to The Wounded Warrior Project, which “Provides programs and services to severely injured service members during the time between active duty and transition to civilian life.”

And if it weren’t enough that Dayna has opted to help out her fellow vets, her employer at Gallop Asian Bistro has offered to match her donation, totaling in about $4,000 for the organization.
Despite the fact that the homophobic family made assumptions based on Dayna’s appearance – unless she approaches her tables by announcing she’s gay – and that they left a note on the check saying that they could not tip her because of her lifestyle, Dayna has vowed that she would be the bigger person were the family to return to the restaurant. In an interview on ABC news Dayna said that if they came back she would, “serve them like any other customer.”
