5 Ways to Travel Like a Gay Celebrity

Last Fall, Neil Patrick Harris and his adorable family had a Dominican Republic vacation that was SO Instagram-worthy. Here are some tips for your travels, too.

It’s about that time of year again. You know the one I mean. Winter and the holidays are well behind us. Spring is in full swing. The weather is starting to get warmer and warmer. And daydreaming of vacations is at an all-time high.

Well, we have just the fix. Six words. Dominican Republic. Punta Cana. Club Med. Yes, this island retreat is ready and waiting all year round, but with spring and summer travels already on people’s minds, it’s time to give this tropical destination a closer look.

After all—if it’s good enough for Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka, and their kids Harper and Gideon, it’s got to be good enough for us, right?

Get ready to live it up like a gay celebrity! Here are a few traveling tips for your upcoming trip to tropical getaways, like Club Med!

1. Bring the kids (or don’t!)

There’s plenty for the little ones to do while you enjoy an ocean-side massage or a kayak adventure. Monitored kid activities include group games, dancing, crafts...you name it! While Neil and David looked like they had a blast with the kids on their DR vacay (celebrating the twins’ birthday, by the way!), there’s also plenty to do sans tots.

Maybe you don’t have kids, and don’t feel like dealing with anyone else’s while on vacation? Maybe you do have kids, but you’re looking for an excuse to leave them with grandma. Either way, Club Med Punta Cana has you covered with their new Zen Oasis village, a dedicated adult-only area complete with its own pool and bar.

2. Let loose

Sure, there’s plenty to do to relax, but there’s more than spa treatments and pool-side cocktail service at your fingertips! In fact, Club Med Punta Cana is (currently) the only place you can enjoy the ultra-fun “Club Med CREACTIVE by Cirque du Soleil.” Yeah, you read that right, Cirque du Soleil. If you’ve ever wanted to fly on a trapeze or flip on some bungee cords, here’s your chance!

If you prefer something a little closer to the ground, there are plenty of other options. From snorkeling to windsurfing, you’ll be hard pressed to find an excuse not to enjoy the beautiful ocean water.

3. Eat your heart out

Yeah, yeah, we all want to look out for our beach bodies, but when you’re surrounded by this much good food, how can you resist? You have three amazing restaurants to choose from, each with their own unique atmosphere and menu. Grab something quick at the massive buffet or order a romantic dinner for two with a bottle of wine (or two). And, as you might expect, don’t miss out on the fresh seafood and amazing tropical fruit!

4. Unplug to unwind

However you like to travel, whoever you like to travel with, whatever you like to do while traveling, try it offline.

Disconnecting from the world, even for an afternoon, can be one of the most beneficial things you can do for yourself, especially on vacation! And hey, if celebrities can turn off their smartphones for a bit, we think we can manage!

5. Don’t talk yourself out of it

Yes, planning a vacation can be stressful. You have to coordinate schedules, think about weather, budget finances, and the list of things to do just goes on and on. But don’t let the little details scare you out of a truly amazing time! Work will be there when you get back, you’ll have fun rain or shine, and spending money on making memories is rarely cause for regret.

So what do you think? Ready to enjoy the island life like a celebrity? Club Med Punta Cana is only a plane ride away!
