We fell in love with her on Roseanne and watched as she grew up in front of our very eyes. From childhood tomboy to out-lesbian and mother of two with partner Allison Adler, Sara Gilbert represents the lesbian community leaps and bounds above the rest. Her new daytime talk show is reportedly going to be centered around motherhood and is slated to begin taping in May. 1. We All Wanted to Date Darlene
Face it, all of us wanted tomboy-extraordinaire Darlene Conner to dump David and come out of the closet on Roseanne. It was a given that it would happen eventually. Or…was it? Well, art did not imitate life, but Sara made up for it by being a “real” lesbian. We’ll forgive Darlene for not seeing the light, too.

2. She Rocked the Flannel Before the Flannel Should’ve Been Rocked
Not the brightest fashion choice in the 1990’s, but most lesbians were doing it anyway and Sara was no exception.Sara rocked the flannel shirt with ripped pants and had all of us running into our closets to take stock.Some of us are still in there wondering what to do with all of the flannel.I think Sara would agree that in 2010, it’s completely “okay” to burn the flannel once and for all.
3. The Hair
The woman has amazing hair. She always has and probably always will.We hate her for it.We love her for it. There was a collective gasp when Sara cut her hair a few years ago.Seriously, there is a large investment in that hair.
4. Twitter Mom & Partner
Lesbians admire Sara for piloting her Twitter account on a regular basis to chat with friends, family and fans about Hollywood, children and gay marriage. Occasionally, there may even be a recipe mixed in there somewhere, too, which scores her even more points in the lesbian community (specifically with femmes who love her hair).

5. She was ThisClose to Little House
When she was a younger, Sara’s cute-as-a-button sister (Melissa Gilbert) was on Little House on the Prairie. Every lesbian either wanted to be Melissa Gilbert or date her at one point in time. Sara was thisclose to Melissa and then she came out of the closet!What a trip!We wonder what Michael Landon would’ve thought about Melissa’s connection to lesbianage...
6. She Can Play it Straight
Butch women love it when an openly-gay actress can play it straight and come off realistic to the audience.After all, many butch women have straight crushes anyway so everything is pretty much perfect when you have a gay woman playing a straight woman.Win-win for everyone involved.Sara’s roles on 24, The Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and Strong Medicine showcased her ability to successfully ride the line gently between reality and television.
7. Sara is an Animal-Rights Activist
Sara is admired in the lesbian community for her work and support of animal rights via PETA and other no-kill organizations.Nothing can come between a lesbian and her animals. Sara’s commitment to protecting our four-legged best friends puts her on the lesbian community short list.

It’s about time we have someone representing the community who won’t run off with someone else or drift away conveniently from their partner.Sara has been with her partner, Allison Adler, since 2002.They share two children – Levi and Sawyer (Allison gave birth to Levi and Sara gave birth to Sawyer).
9. She Graduated from Yale University
While Sara was acting on Roseanne, she was also attending Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.So, let’s tally this up, shall we?She has great hair, loves animals and is also smart.All of that alone constitutes creating a Top 10 list specifically for sexy-smarty pants!
10. She Speaks Her Mind
Sara will be joining CBS President Les Moonves’ wife Julie Chen in a television chat show similar to that of ABC’s The View. The untitled new talk show will tape its pilot episode in May and it has already been confirmed that Sara will be participating.We cannot wait to hear the lesbian mom side of things represented in daytime television!
