The actor responded to rumors that he's dating stylist Chris Appleton.

Rumors have been swirling for several weeks now that Lukas Gage is dating hairstylist Chris Appleton — but Gage isn’t keen on watching the speculation.

The actor has been notoriously disinterested in spilling details on his dating life just for the amusement of fans, previously pointedly declining to label his sexuality when one person on Twitter assumed he was straight and his response prompted further inquiries.

So when photos of Gage and Appleton on vacation in Mexico led to speculation about the nature of their relationship, and walking the red carpet together only seemed to seal the deal, it isn’t surprising that the actor didn’t know how to feel about it.

“If they want to think that, they can” he told The New York Times about the assumption that he and Appleton are dating. “I’m a pretty open book about most things in my life, but I have a problem with the culture of everyone needing to know everybody’s business and nothing can be sacred.”

“It’s a weird line that I’m still trying to figure out,” he admitted.

Gage also opened up about the people who are supposed to be on his team pressuring him to be more straightforward (no pun intended) about his sexuality and dating life, recalling the time an agent dropped him for declining to “pick a lane” and label himself as gay, bi, or straight.

“I understand representation and voices that need to be heard, but I don’t want to do anything on anyone’s accord but my own,” he explained. “Let me do it when I’m ready.”
