Bisexual Women Suffer from a High Occurence of Depression and Anxiety Study Finds

A new study finds a high occurrence of depression, stress, and anxiety among bisexual women, and that they often report a feeling of being invisible.

"There tends to be this expectation or standard that a person picks one sexual identity and sticks with it," lead researcher Lisa Lindley said, according to the Huffington Post. "I think there's a lot of misunderstanding about bisexuals."

George Mason University's survey also showed that bisexual men and women tend to abuse alcohol as teenagers, but the dependence on alcohol drops for men as they age. The prevalence of alcohol abuse for bisexual women stay the same.

"I think their risk has a lot more to do with stigma," Lindley added.

The study was published in the American Journal of Public Health.
