Gay Marriage Senate Vote in New Hampshire

Will New Hampshire become the fifth state in our nation to legally recognize same-sex marriage? Its Senate is scheduled to meet Wednesday, April 28th to decide.

Will New Hampshire become the fifth state in our nation to legally recognize same-sex marriage? Its Senate is scheduled to meet Wednesday, April 28th to decide.

Last week, the Senate Judiciary committee voted to kill the Marriage Equality bill in a 3-2 vote. Members of the senate argued that, “New Hampshire needed more time to build consensus on the issue,” according to TheAdvocate.com.

As the bill faces elimination tomorrow morning and without a majority passing the bill, it can’t survive. Even if it does pass, Governor John Lynch is likely to veto, as he prefers same-sex civil legal unions, which are already legal in their state.

The Advocate reports that while all 10 Republican members of the Senate are expected to oppose the legislation, but “support from the 14 Democrats appears mixed, according to the blog,BlueHampshire.com. Two Democrats are apt to vote against the bill, another appears to be leaning that way, three are undecided, and eight are in favor of marriage equality.”
